Phantom Blade Zero Beginner Guide: Pre-Launch Handbook
New to Phantom Blade Zero? Start here — the premise, the combat language, and what to actually do before Oct 29.
Last updated: Aug 13, 2026 · pre-launch
The premise
You are Soul, the youngest "Will" of The Order, framed for murdering its patriarch. Wounded and given 66 days by a mystic healer, you fight through the Phantom World to uncover the conspiracy and clear your name.
Combat vocabulary
- Sha-Chi — the resource that powers special attacks and defense; switching weapons restores it.
- Blades — your two primary weapons; each has unique combos and a Power Surge ultimate.
- Phantom Edges — secondary tools (bow, axe, mask, hammer) that also unlock paths.
- Brutal Moves — blue-cued attacks you can parry; a perfect parry triggers Ghoststep.
- Killer Moves — red-cued attacks you cannot block; dodge them. Perfect dodges also trigger Ghoststep.
- Ghoststep — the signature counter: teleport behind an enemy and punish.
- Weapon switch — swapping primary weapons (left d-pad) fully restores Sha-Chi, on a cooldown.
- Pure Sha-Chi — filled by Sha-Chi combos and guards; each full segment is one L2 Ultimate charge.
- Executions — empty an enemy's Sha-Chi to break their stance, then follow the triangle prompt.
Your first session (our plan)
| Step | Plan |
|---|---|
| 1 | Start with the Sanguine blade — it is Soul's signature and the easiest baseline. |
| 2 | Pair it with a ranged Phantom Edge (Night Owl) for safe chip damage. |
| 3 | Practice parry on Brutal Moves in the tutorial area before exploring. |
| 4 | Explore Pang Town early; return after gaining new weapons to open blocked routes. |

Real weapon tables, boss strategies, ending routes, NG+ guides and a full walkthrough — this handbook turns into that.
Beginner questions
Do I need to know Phantom Blade or Rainblood before playing?
No. S-GAME says Zero is a standalone story — a spiritual reboot of the old Rainblood games, not a sequel you need homework for.
How long is the campaign?
Roughly 20–40 hours for the main story depending on who you ask; full completion with all endings runs longer. We'll have a real number after launch.
What should I do before launch?
Wishlist on Steam and Epic, decide Standard vs Deluxe, check the PC requirements, and watch the Aug 17 State of Play in case a demo drops.
Can I miss side quests or endings?
Probably. The 8 endings tie to side quests and key items, so choices can lock things out. A no-miss checklist lands after launch.
